Locke
We are a family of 4 (0, 4, 30, 31) and are looking to settle in a country in Europe were unschooling is legal. Ireland is the country of choice for us. We want to purchase land with the possibility of building a house or an existing house and live with 2-5 other home education families (all in separate houses in walking distance). A further very important goal is self sustaining. Obviously building a house and farm takes a lot of time and we understand that. For now we are learning and experimenting in our small garden. What I really want to stress is that we are looking for a dedicated, strongly connected, high trust community, not a loose relation between families where people come and go as they please. I understand that this comes with a lot of difficulties and unavoidable arguments, because all of us have forgotten how to live with other people. These arguments must be solved and we must learn to stick together trust and love each other.
Financially, I would like to organize the community in the following way: All land and buildings belong to the community on paper. In practice a family pays money to the community and receives land + buildings that it wants. An example: family A, B and C buy 10 ha of land together. A has payed 40k B has payed 30k and C has payed 30k. So 40% of the land belongs to A, 30% belongs to B and C each. If all hell breaks loose and A wants to leave the community A can sell its piece of land ONLY to the community(B, C and potentially new member families). Without going into detail I hope the general idea is clear.
- everyone owns his piece himself
- no rent payments from one member to the other
- no living on the expense of others this means:
- no power imbalance because of money
- The vicious circle of debt
Side note: I am aware that there are people who think of stuff like "free love", "tolerance" and what not... For us a family is: man (head of the family) + woman (carer of the family) + children (future of the family and community) I could of course go on and talk about what "freedom", "truth", "love" and other strong words mean for us, but I think I have my our general worldview clear enough.
